Manual Trade Workers Union : ウィキペディア英語版 | Manual Trade Workers Union
The Manual Trade Workers Union was a union created in the early 20th century to further the interests of Egyptian trade laborers and craftsmen and protect them from the growing influence of foreign imperialists on the employment sphere in Egypt. == Origins ==
The Manual Trade Workers Union was founded under the leadership and umbrella of the Egyptian Nationalist Party in 1908. This was done for the purposes of establishing a national base of support for the party as it was previously composed mainly of upper class intellectuals. Interesting to note is the use of the word Niqaba to distinguish the organization as a union. The term doesn't translate to either league or association, two words that had been in the lexicon at the time but rather it refers to the concept of a guild. In this manner the union is invoking legitimacy by association by naming itself after something in the past〔Workers and Working Classes in the Middle East, SUNY Press., 1994. (Lockman )〕
